I love Star Trek Reboot fics. Kirk/Bones works in the Reboot so beautifully, and this fic captures Jim's interesting combination of cockiness, brilliance, and obliviousness, and Bones's bluster and vulnerability. It is also hot and tender and funny and beautiful. A story that ramps up from humor, segues into spice, and ends with a tender understanding.

So… paraka opened a can of worms introducing me to American Idol. I blame her entirely for this, and… um.. my podfic big bang… and every other AI podfic I create. This particular Kris/Adam fic just filled me with such happiness. jeyhawk writes the wonderful, fun, sweet fics that never fail to make me smile. This particular one just filled me with glee. Kris is charmingly innocent and yet remarkably sure of his mind, and Adam is…. Adam.

I recorded two podfics for the Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology, and while I strongly encourage you to download the entire thing, here are my two contributions. Thanks to both authors for permission to record. Thanks to the wonderful mods of the Awesome Ladies for being so...well... awesome. Thanks to teas_me for the super-fast beta job.

The first is by the ever-wonderful woldy. I love reading woldy's work, because it just flows so smoothly and beautifully. This ficlet made me so happy, even with a pairing I never considered. It works in a way I never would have imagined. I finished it and all I could think was "I desperately want a Millicent of my very own!!!"

Since I follow most of the mods on twitter, I can tell you that organizing and compiling this was a huge amount of work, and I for one, am really looking forward to the rest of my week, where I can just sit and listen to short podfics celebrating the awesome women of fandom!!! Thing the Fourth: For anyone who hasn't heard, Washington has legalized same-sex marriage, and New Jersey's state Senate passed a bill to recognize same-sex marriage as well (which Gov. Christie will veto, unfortunately, but I still count it as a win). Are we finally reaching a turning point here? I'm afraid to hope, but god help me, I do! And for a little bit of humor on the situation: Gay marriage — the end of the world?

Happy Day!!!! It's Valentine's Day today. But, the thing is, I don't celebrate V-day. I don't hate it. It doesn't make me ragey. I've just been single for so long that it's a null holiday for me. But, it's the middle of February, and if ever there was a month in which we needed to celebrate something to get us through, it's February. Therefore, I present the Not-Valentine's Itty-Bitty Podficlet Anthology. 23 podfics of ficlets and drabbles (no more than 1000 words each) from 11 fandoms. They range from angst to PWP to fluff to humor. There's femmeslash, gen, het, and slash. What they do have in common is that they are all brilliant little snippets that build a whole world in just a few words.

My very great thanks to all the authors for the permission to record these fics. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it, and how much fun I had recording! Blanket permission is a godsend for projects like these and everyone has been so wonderful! Also, as always, thanks to teas_me and takola for the uber-fast beta job.

Hello everybody!!

Valentine's Day is coming up next week. V-day is a weird holiday for me. It's kind of null. It does not fill me with rage, it does not fill me with happiness. It just is. BUT, it's the middle of February, and if there was ever a month that called for a little podfic happiness, it's February. And I'm in the mood to record itty bitty podficlets/podrabbles. So...this weekend I'm going to put together a little Non-Valentine's Day Podficlet Anthology for release on V-day. Therefore.... I am looking for fics. So...

1) If you're keen, you can point me toward one of your own ficlets or drabbles of no more than 1000 words, or you can write a wee drabble in the comments, and I'll record it. Any fandom, any pairing or gen (except incest and non-con... you all know I have a thing about that). Offer is good to anyone! ♥

This year is the second round of the The Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology!!! The goal a bunch of short lady-centric podfics by different readers in different fandoms. These will be made available both as individual files and as a podfic/podbook collection and posted on February 14.

Podfics are due on Sunday, so this might seem like short notice, but these are bitty podfics. Short is the order of the day here. Fics can be absolutely no more than 1500 words and many of last years podfics were 1-2 minutes long. I only signed up yesterday. So if you're looking for a chance to record more, or are just dipping your toes in you should sign up!!! Last year's anthology was AWESOME! 73 stories, from 41 fandoms, performed by 19 readers, and I have no doubt that this one will be fabulous, too.

Prop 8 Declared Unconstitutional..... Again!!!!!

I may have (possibly, maybe) cried when I heard. In fact, I kind of had a nervous breakdown (in a good way?). It actually really drove home the point to me (as if it needed to be driven) about how awful this fight is for the LGBTQ community. I don't even live in California, ultimately this decision doesn't directly effect me, but I was tied up in knots, waiting for three people that I don't know to pass judgment on all same-sex relationships. I felt completely powerless and kind of hopeless. So...yeah. When the news came, I kind of cried and broke down and shook for about 30 minutes before I could really process it.

All that aside, \o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/ *spins and twirls and spins and twirls* This is a good step. A really good step. *deep breath*

Marriage Equality Approaches in Washington!!!!!

A House committee approved a measure to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington state, setting the stage for final passage this week.
The House Judiciary committee advanced the measure on a 7-5 vote Monday after a public hearing. The bill could be up for a vote on the House floor as early as Wednesday. The full Senate passed the measure on a 28-21 vote last Wednesday. Once passed by the House, the bill goes to Gov. Chris Gregoire for her signature. (AP)

One more rec for the road, because there can never be too many podfic recs. So…. littleroo just asked on Twitter, what is your guaranteed smile? Let me take you back. I'm sitting at work. My work is your typical office workspace. I work in a cube, surrounded by other cubes. I have no door. I have no lid. If someone opens a bag of potato chips 3 cubes over, I hear it. I also hear them eating the potato chips. So… I start listening to this podfic, and within the first 5 minutes, there are these huge belly laughs… like guffaws… coming from my cube. This was because chemm80 has just read "Misha squawked mournfully." It was all over from there. Cue the IMs coming to my computer "what are you listening to??" That awkward moment when….

Two things today. First of all, I am way behind on all the wonderful things posted for pod_aware. I'm slowly working my way through them, and yesterday I stumbled upon this post by pennyplainknits, who I secretly adore and am in awe of in such a way that I kind of feel like I'm too in awe of her to actually talk to her *headdesk*. She posted this voice blog for the last day of pod_aware, Encouraging Podfic, and when I listened to it, I cried. In fact, I am crying even as I am writing this post. She just perfectly expresses so many of my thoughts about podfic and why I love it and why I think it is amazing and wonderful, and why, even when I am feeling awful about my own podfics, I keep going. Anyway, I'm embedding the stream here in hopes that this might reach a few more people. So, I realized that I seem to rec podfics on a semi-regular basis and I thought it might be good to have a centralized place for a list of podfics I have recced. Some of these were in lists of recs, and some were individual posts. Here I am just listing the pertinent info, but there is a link to the actual rec post if you're actually interested in what I had to say about it. As a final note, anything I rec as a podfic is also counts as a fic rec, since both the podfic and the fic have to resonate with me to rec it. There are links to the original text here as well.

Going through my past rec posts made me realize how many awesome podfics there are out there that I haven't gotten around to reccing yet. I was literally baffled by the fact that some of my absolute favorite readers have somehow not made an appearance. *headdesk* Oh well, those recs are coming; they're just waiting patiently on my to-rec list for me to find the time to put the recs together. This is another chain of podfic recs. Like the last one, it mirrors how I drift around on my iPod (which is very, very, very full of podfic). It goes like this. I'm listening to podfic A that has some feature or theme of [ABC], which makes me think of podfic B, which has some feature of [XYZ], which then makes me think of podfic C, and so on. These tend to leap across fandoms and pairings, so, for a weird little look into the way FJ's mind works, and some completely, freaking awesome podfics, here we go. As always, I encourage you to branch out from your fandom/pairing ruts and give new things a try, I think that for this list, you don't actually have to be familiar with any of the fandoms to know what's going on. If you're not familiar with the fandom, just think of them as original fiction, you won't be disappointed. A CHAIN OF RECS…..
