[Podfic Recommendation] Plays Well with Others, Read by Chemm80

One more rec for the road, because there can never be too many podfic recs. So…. [livejournal.com profile] littleroo just asked on Twitter, what is your guaranteed smile? Let me take you back. I'm sitting at work. My work is your typical office workspace. I work in a cube, surrounded by other cubes. I have no door. I have no lid. If someone opens a bag of potato chips 3 cubes over, I hear it. I also hear them eating the potato chips. So… I start listening to this podfic, and within the first 5 minutes, there are these huge belly laughs… like guffaws… coming from my cube. This was because [livejournal.com profile] chemm80 has just read "Misha squawked mournfully." It was all over from there. Cue the IMs coming to my computer "what are you listening to??" That awkward moment when….

Title: Plays Well with Others (Link to Text | Link to Podfic Post mp3 | m4b)
Fandom: SPN RPF
Pairing: J2
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bertee (atimi)
Reader: [livejournal.com profile] chemm80
Cover Artist and podbook compiler: [livejournal.com profile] cybel
Summary: In which Jared runs team-building workshops, Jensen loathes team-building workshops, and Misha is indifferent to team-building workshops but quite likes livestock.

The Story: Oh, this story. It would be crack, except, somehow, it's not. Somewhere in the midst of the "evolution game" and the "beanbag chair of truth", [livejournal.com profile] bertee strikes this remarkable balance. It's not crack. It's silly humor, but so warmhearted and genuine that it fails to tip over the edge into crack!fic (not that there is anything wrong with crack!fic). She has this way with words in which the humor just glows and sparkles and by the time you finish, you realize that you've been grinning like a fool for the entire fic.

The Reading: [livejournal.com profile] chemm80 has this wonderful, understated way of reading. It particularly makes humor shine so brightly, because it sneaks up on you unexpectedly. I think I've listened to just about every fic [livejournal.com profile] chemm80 has recorded, because there is something about her voice and her way of reading that makes me feel safe. Like, I know that I'm in good hands and will be handled with care. This is especially true of Plays Well with Others, which it would have been so easy to overdo. But her reading is so steady and sure, that each joke and each laugh just shines. So, if you're having a bad day, give this a try. It is my guaranteed smile.
