I kind of think that Fandom Days are like Dog Years. One Fandom Day is like 15 RL Days, so when I'm away for...say... a week, it's really like several months. Fests have started and ended; communities have risen and fallen; drama has happened and been resolved. And my flist backreading is so overwhelming that I just...um... yeah. Not backreading. So Hi! *waves* Sorry if I missed big things, PM me if you think I need to know anything :D

There are and have been lots of Things Going On™!!!

First of all, I had a visit from the lovely and wonderful teas_me!!!! (Hence the week-long hiatus). She was here for five wonderful days!! Well, actually three cold, crappy, rainy days and two beautiful days, but weather aside, it was AMAZING to have so much quality time with her!!!!! There was tea and fandom-y chats and movie/TV watching, and sightseeing, and eating, and cooking, and more tea!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Second, if you haven't been following it, The amplificathon Challenge is running now!!!! I, sadly, won't really be able to participate at all this year (in spite of my New Year's Resolution to do better than last year). The timing is just not good for me. But that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy ALL THE AMAZING PODFIC!!! I've already seen a couple HP podfics posted, so head over there and have a look-see!!! And it's not too late to create some awesome podfics for it!!!

Now I admit that I haven't actually read not!fic (just haven't gotten to it yet), but it makes the most AMAZING PODFICS EVER!!!! It's like someone is just telling you a story. And there is just So. Much. There!!!! It is awesome!!!!

So I ask you. Why is the Not!Fic pretty much only in Bandom?! Why not HP? AI? STXI? Merlin? I charge you all, go forth and write Not!Fic!!! We all need a little not!fic in our lives!

February is my most hated month. It's cold, and dreary, and I usually get sick. This year, I had the dubious pleasure of getting sick not once, but twice. Go me. I look on my Twitter feed, and everyone else is sick too. Or having bad days at work. Or having fandom freak-outs. Or life crises. People are on hiatus from fandom because RL just got too overwhelming, and to top it all off, we in the U.S. have the horribleness of the Republican primaries to slog through. So, how about a little joy? Just a small amount? I mean, March is just around the corner. March is when the effervescent teas_me is coming to visit! March is when the first day of Spring occurs! The days start getting longer and the sun shines a little more brightly! But until then, here's a little something that never fails to fill me with joy. Every time I watch it, I see something new. Happy almost March, everyone!

Thing the Second: OMG! The Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology has posted!!!!! It has 104 women-centered stories from 86 authors, 47 podficcers, and 64 fandoms, and it runs a little over 7.5 hours!!! Since I follow most of the mods on twitter, I can tell you that organizing and compiling this was a huge amount of work, and I for one, am really looking forward to the rest of my week, where I can just sit and listen to short podfics celebrating the awesome women of fandom!!! You can download the whole thing (as mp3 or m4b) or you can download the individual files. So what are you waiting for? >>GO NOW!!!!<<

Thing the Fourth: For anyone who hasn't heard, Washington has legalized same-sex marriage, and New Jersey's state Senate passed a bill to recognize same-sex marriage as well (which Gov. Christie will veto, unfortunately, but I still count it as a win). Are we finally reaching a turning point here? I'm afraid to hope, but god help me, I do! And for a little bit of humor on the situation: Gay marriage — the end of the world?

To all of you on my flist, I wish you a super-happy, productive, healthy, wonderful year!!! You all pretty much made my 2011 a good one, counter-balancing the craziness of my RL with the craziness of Fandom (which is altogether a different kind of craziness). Happy New Year, BBs!!!!!

Fannish 2012 Resolutions

1) Comment MORE!!! I kind of fell down on commenting at the end of 2011 and I know how much it means. This goes double for podfics, since often they get few to no comments. *will try to create a commenting system that works for me*

2) Record more femmeslash (and because I recorded a grand total of 0 femmeslash podfics in 2011, this should be easy).

3) Record at least 1 podfic that pushes my reading boundaries, either due to length or writing-style.

4) Encourage more HP (and other) Authors to have Blanket Permission Statements on their profiles/masterlists and to sign up on BP Lists.
( Cut for why this is a really good thing ) So you guys, totally think about adding a BP statement to your Profiles or Masterlists as well as signing up on BP Lists!! And if you want, I can point you to both BP lists as well as some awesome BP Statements that I have found to give you an idea of how some people do it.

5) Record in at least 3 new fandoms.

6) Run another round of hp_podfic_fest, preferably without the nervous breakdown at the end.

7) Keep my Fest and Thematic Lists Up-to-date I'm behind on that already. *headdesk*

Oh boy. It's been kind of a whirlwind of a year in my fannish life (actually in my RL, too). So… to take you back… In mid-2010, I was a lurker. A lurker in a big way. I think I had…never commented on a fic, never heard a podfic, I don't think that I had even made an actual post in my LJ. *goes back to check* Yup. First post ever made was in June of 2010. I had an LJ account purely for the purpose of posting searches on fic-search comms.

By the end of 2010, I had just started maintaining a few lists in HP Fandom, dipping my toe into my second fandom (Merlin) and had listened to...maybe…. 12 podfics total. So. Cue 2011:

Hi all,

This is just a wee PSA. The Silver Snitch has been a phenomenal resource over the years for snarry, drarry, and rare-pair shippers. It also houses fics from authors who have long left the fandom and left their fics only on that site. It's a wonderful site and was one of my main resources prior to finding LJ.

The site has been down for the past couple of months due to financial difficulties, as there was only a single person carrying the entire load of the site (including the financial load). She is working hard to get the site back up and running, and is currently asking for donations.

I know that this is a hard time of year for people financially, but even a little bit helps. I know that so many people have reaped the benefits of The Silver Snitch for years and years, and if every one of those people donated even $1, it would make a huge difference. So, for those of you who can, think about foregoing your Starbucks for the next week, and click this link, to find out a little more about the situation. There is a link at the bottom of the post for donations.

For those who aren't in a financial position to donate, consider spreading the word! Hopefully we can reach the people who are in a position to help.

So, I'm seeing a common theme on my flist right now. People are dragging. They're dragging because of overwhelming personal situations, they're dragging because they have fics due for fests, they're dragging because they're drowning in mod duties, they're dragging because this time of year can be tough. They're just...dragging a little.

So...first of all, I wanted to say that if there is anything I can do to help people out, please let me know. Fandom is my happy place, and I'm met so many awesome people here, so if I can give back a little, I would love to.
