[Podfic] A Volatile Mix by Leela

Recently, I've begun to embrace drabbles and ficlets. I never used to enjoy them. I always wanted more, more, more. But lately, I've come to understand and enjoy the elegance of a well done short piece. I really admire authors who can say so much in so few words. It's a talent that I don't have. Just ask my co-workers, all my emails are novel-length.

A couple weeks ago, [livejournal.com profile] leela_cat posted A Volatile Mix, and in my new-found spirit of being pro-short!fic, I plunged in, and I'm so very glad I did. As soon as I read it, I knew that I wanted to podfic it. It epitomizes what I like about short!fic; [livejournal.com profile] leela_cat somehow takes ~1000 words, and give you a glimpse into this entire world. I also absolutely love the way she deals with Snape here. For me, he is truly believable, and this is how I think he would approach a relationship. He's uncompromising and prone to hot-temperedness, and yet, he still loves Harry.

Buckets of thanks to [livejournal.com profile] leela_cat, who generously gave blanket permission to record all her fics and continues to write so many that I adore. And thanks, to [livejournal.com profile] takola, who gave me a lightening fast beta, in spite of drowning in RL.

[Podfic] A Quiet Beginning by Starduchess

There was recently a podficcing challenge called [livejournal.com profile] pod_together, in which authors and podficcers worked together to create a story and a podfic. I was a little too timid to sign up for it, since at the time I had just started podficcing. However, right before reveals, they announced that they were going to give people the opportunity to do party favors, and the ever-wonderful [livejournal.com profile] starduchess asked me if I'd like to do a party favor with her. I, of course, said "yes, please!" This is the result.

[livejournal.com profile] starduchess wrote an absolutely lovely little ficlet that I just adore. We went through a first version of the podfic and a few changes were made--things that read well on the page, but were less clear in aural form as well as getting rid of some of the evil evil S sounds.

Big, huge, ginormous thanks to [livejournal.com profile] starduchess for reaching out to me. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you on this!

[Podfic] Catch and Release by Roozette

When I first read [info]roozetter's Catch and Release during this year's Snarry-a-thon, it completely amazed me. It's such an incredible fic. It is a Snarry fic, but the portrayal of Ron and Hermione's relationship is so incredibly tender, and Ron shines so brightly here. It's such a joy to see him all grown up. I could go on and on about how much I love this fic (and I will, as soon as I get my rec lists in order), but I'll cut it short and say that every time I read it, [info]roozetter breaks me apart, and then puts me back together again.

Thank you (of course) to [info]roozetter, both for permission to record and for your seemingly endless support of my little podficcing endeavors. Thank you too, to [livejournal.com profile] waltzing_mice, who graciously allowed me to use her gorgeous The Process of Holding your Hand as the centerpiece for the cover art.

Additionally, thanks as always to [livejournal.com profile] ladydeth12 and [livejournal.com profile] takola for the beta jobs and encouragement.

[Podfic] No Room at the Inn by DementorDelta

[livejournal.com profile] dementordelta is one of the first authors that I read in Snarry fandom. I always loved her fics because they have a sweetness to them that don't compromise the acidity of Snape. No Room at the Inn is a particular favorite of mine. Although it takes place at Christmas, it's never struck me as a Christmas!Fic. Rather, it's the embodiment of the slow progression of the relationship between Snape and Harry. Snape is perfect in his subtle scheming and likewise, Harry is perfect in his obliviousness--not dumb, just unaware, and his moment of epiphany always makes me smile.

Gigantic thank you to [livejournal.com profile] dementordelta, for the opportunity to podfic this fic. It was truly a pleasure to record a fic that has become an old friend of mine. Also, a huge shout-out to [livejournal.com profile] tripperfunster. You see that cover art down there? *points* That gorgeous piece is by her and you should check out the original here and leave her wonderful squees, because Guh!!!!

Additionally, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] takola who stepped in for my regular beta (who is on vacation) and [livejournal.com profile] ladydeth12, who then took time out of her vacation to download this onto her phone to listen. You guys rock!

Got a Snarry Plot Bunny?

The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] eriador117 has created a new comm!

Ever got an idea for a Snarry story but don't have the time to write it yourself? Or maybe you'd like to see art based on a particular fanfic? Well, here is where you can post your bunnies, challenges, requests to authors and artists and maybe someone will pick yours.

It's kind of like a kink-meme, but no kinks required. All ratings and requests are accepted, just read the rules. It would be awesome if this took off, so Snarry readers and writers, go check out....

[livejournal.com profile] snarry_bunnies

...and get the ball rolling!!! (and pimp to your own journals, yy?)

Two Podfic PSAs

First, any people who are intrigued by having their writing podficced (and readers as well), should totally check this out!!! This is such an amazing idea: a challenge where authors and readers will work in as a partnership, the author writing a story specifically to be podficced, and the reader recording it. At the end of the challenge, the text version and the audio version will be posted simultaneously. Right now they have more readers than writers, so go!!!!! (and if an author wanted to sign up with me as a group, I would be game.)

Open for sign ups May 16 to May 27 on LJ and DW

Secondly, [livejournal.com profile] dreaming_athena has made a podfic of Rapture by Mia Ugly!!!! I haven't listened yet, because between [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon and [livejournal.com profile] podficbigbang, my listening queue is really, really long (and the podfic is over 6 hours long). But.... RAPTURE BY MIA UGLY!!!! Could this in any way be a bad thing? Click the gorgeous cover art below to get to the posting!!!!

[Podfic] Wears the Trousers by AbstractConcept

When [livejournal.com profile] the_con_cept gave me permission to record her stories, I literally squee-ed out loud. I've been doing some more serious podfic lately, and recording this was like wrapping myself up in a giant blanket of giggles. I don't usually go for crack!fic, but when I need a laugh, [livejournal.com profile] the_con_cept's fics are the place I go. Every time. Huge thanks to her for giving me the opportunity to record. I really did laugh out loud as I was recording. Then I had to go back and edit out the chuckles.

Random Squee-age and Recs from Snarry-a-thon

Okay, so I'm a little behind on Snarry-a-thon 2011 this year. I've just been wrapped up in other things. Therefore, while the fic and art are fooding in, I'm taking it in a teaspoon at a time. And it's fabulous. This fest is off to a magnificent start and I wanted to make sure people are aware of it.

*points to banner down below*

*commands you to click*

Some quick recs from the things I have read so far, which isn't much, to be honest. I have a feeling that my Snarry rec list is going to explode once I get through this fest.

Playing with Matches
I have a very soft spot for matchmaker!Harry, almost as much as I do for wandmaker!Harry. This fic was just so sweet, and Snape was just so Snape, in his actions and motivations. EWE, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways!

And don't forget the art!

Tails It Is is simply gorgeous and sweet. The expressions on both their faces, the innocence of Harry, all curled up in a fetal position, with Snape's arm protectively (possessively?) around him. It's just so... GUH!

[Podfic] Unstrung Heroes by RaeWhit

Huge thanks to RaeWhit (a.k.a.[livejournal.com profile] joanwilder) for letting me have a whack at this fic. I have loved it for so long, and it has always been one of my go-to fics for days I'm feeling blue. For me, it embodies some of what I love about Snarry: the coming together of two lonely, damaged men, who are more alike than they know. It's a beautiful story and I can only hope I did it even the tiniest bit of justice.

[Podfic] 6 Lessons from a Dead Man by Roozetter

So, I love podfics. Due to the sad, sad, sad lack of Harry Potter podfics (especially Harry/Snape), I decided that the only solution was to begin making my own. After determining that voice replacement surgery is not in my future, and that I'll have to stick with the larynx that fate gave me, this is the final result.

A huge thanks to [info]roozetter for not only offering up her fics to my massacre interpretation, especially knowing that I have never attempted such a thing before, but also for being so enthusiastic about the final product. Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] paraka for beta-ing, offering up suggestions, and informing me that I would not humiliate myself by posting this.

List o' Fests (Harry Potter)

I love fests. They are such a great way to get introduced to new authors and to re-discover favorite authors. The only problem is, I sometimes get distracted in the middle (especially around the holidays), and then forget the fest ever happened. I am always so happy to get referred back to a Masterlist or a “Big Reveal” where I can dig around for gems that I missed the first time around. Since I haven’t found any lists of fests out there, what follows is a list of links to fests and exchanges (past, present, and future). This focuses (as always) on slash and femmeslash. The only non-slash/femmeslash pairings you'll find here are in the fests that allow for various pairings, where slash and femslash might be present as well. This list doesn't include the drabble fests or the art fests.

I have found another awesome list of H/D Fests and Fairs over at [livejournal.com profile] gunshandcuffs. It also includes H/D Art Fests and Drabble Fests and is organized by year. Go check it out!

For a wonderful, fabulous list of ongoing and upcoming challenges (gen, slash, het, you-name-it), check out Potterfest's Masterlist of Challenges!

Fairy Tale Fics (Mostly HP/SS)

This is a themed list of fanfiction that is based on known fairy tales. Generally speaking, I'd like the fics in this list to actually be recognizable (in some way) to a specific fairy tale (or to more than one), but occasionally I run across fics that are so "fairy tale" in nature that I will include them here. I'll note which fairy tales are represented

This list is mainly HP/SS, but I'll include other pairings that I come across as well, if the mood strikes me. However, it will only be comprehensive for HP/SS. I heart H/D as well, but [livejournal.com profile] hidders has a brand new list of H/D fics based on fairy tales, and since it is new and all the links are working, I see no reason to re-tread the ground. Go here to access it. It is wonderful.

I'm sure there are other rec lists out there, and if I find them, I'll post them here as well. I certainly don't want to take credit for anyone else's work at compiling these things :)

Note: You won't find any WIPs here, because I get too disappointed when they're abandoned. I always wait until they're finished before I read them.

Non-Magical AUs (HP/SS)

This list includes all the non-magical fics I've been able to find. For me, "non-magical au" means that the story takes place in the real world. It doesn't include the wizarding world losing their magic, or characters leaving the magical world and living without magic. These are stories in which magic doesn't exist. At all. It never has; it never will.

I have not yet read everything on this list, but a ♥ will lead you to the ones I have read and recommend. Note that just because something isn't ♥-ed, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad!fic. The ♥-s are just my favorites.

Also, I never include WIPs because I get too disappointed when they aren't finished.

Any other non-magic fic lists I have come across:
Harry/Draco AU Stories Listing (Non Magical) by [dreamwidth.org profile] foryourpleasure.
Living as a Muggle by [livejournal.com profile] painless_j.

There were a lot of fics, so I separated this into two lists. For HP/DM non-magic fics, go here

Epistolary Fics

My other love: Epistolary Fiction. Generally, I think of epistolary fiction as entailing letters written back and forth, but this list includes both fics that are completely correspondence, as well as those in which correspondence plays a (fairly) large/important role. So they aren't all, strictly, epistolary. Forgive me...

I don't want to step on any toes, so I will say right now that Painless_J has compiled a great list of epistolary fiction (and other great lists). I'm sure there will be lots of overlap, and this is mainly for my own reference. If other people find it useful, great. Also, she states that she has been out of HP Fandom for a while, so I thought an updated list would be great to have around.

I have not yet read everything on this list, but a ♥ will lead you to the ones I have read and recommend. Note that just because something isn't ♥-ed, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad!fic. The ♥-s are just my favorites.

Note:
1) My main pairings are HP/SS and HP/DM, so that's mostly what you'll find here, unless I feel the sudden urge to put other pairings in :)
2) I don't do WIPs. If I see one that looks interesting, I bookmark it and come back periodically to see if it's finished. You won't find any WIPs on this list.

If I find any more epistolary rec-lists by other people, I'll post them here:

Snarry which deals annonymous letter writing by [livejournal.com profile] mac_tunes (HP/SS)
Epistolary by [livejournal.com profile] devian_11 (HP/DM)
